PRESS RELEASE... JUNE 12 AS DEMOCRACY DAY RIGHT

MKO ABIOLA

Our attention has been drawn to the declaration by the Federal Government declaring June 12 as democracy day and conferring the highest honour on MKO posthumously .

June 12 remains unforgettable as the day Nigerians freely elected a President in the freest and fairest election with the winner,Bashorun MKO Abiola standing firm on the mandate he was given until he was liquidated.
We have campaigned around these issues over the years and that is why we accept these honours no matter how belated.

As we look forward to the official celebration of June 12 as democracy day which we have observed every year since the annulment ,It is our wish that the essential spirit of June 12 takes firm root in our land with free and fair election as a norm from the Ekiti elections on July 14 and the general elections in 2019.

That is the moment the spirit of Abiola and all matyrs of June 12 will forgive Nigeria

Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin,
President Women Arise and Centre for Change.

RUSSIAN EMBASSY IN ISRAEL WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION IN JERUSALEM

Russian President Putin and Israeli Prime Minister  Benjamin Netanyahu

The event will be hosted by Russia’s incoming ambassador Anatoly Viktorov at Sergei’s Courtyard in an area of downtown Jerusalem known as the Russian Compound, which Israeli authorities handed to Russia a decade ago in a goodwill gesture, the Times of Israel reported.

“The decision to host the National Day reception there is not occasional. The Compound symbolizes our culture, traditions and represents a genuine Russian allotment in Israel and the Middle East in general,” a spokesperson for the Russian embassy in Tel Aviv told the Times of Israel on Monday.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said that the event “corresponds to Russia’s April 6, 2017 recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and reflects the good relations between the two countries.”

However, following the decision to host the National Day reception in Jerusalem, the embassy made it clear that Russia still considers the eastern part of the city to be the capital of a future Palestinian state and is opposed to the Trump administration’s decision to recognize all of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Eastern Jerusalem contains the Temple Mount – Judaism’s holiest site – as well as the Western Wall and the ancient Jewish Quarter in the Old City.

“We keep in mind that the specific parameters of a solution for the entire range of the issues of the Arab-Israeli conflict, including Jerusalem, should be coordinated at the direct talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians,” the Russian embassy spokesman said. “Russia is ready to further provide assistance to the achievement of relevant agreements between the parties.”

The majority of foreign embassies in Israel host their independence day or national day celebrations in the Tel Aviv area.

Despite relocating the embassy to Jerusalem earlier this month, the U.S. will not hold the July 4th reception in the city this year, the report said.

“We will comment on the July 4 event when we get closer to the event. We’re not ready to make further announcements,” a U.S. embassy official said.

The event is likely to be held at the ambassador’s official residence in Herzliya where it has been held in recent years.

In a February interview with the Times of Israel, Russia’s Deputy Ambassador to Israel Leonid Frolov said that President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “greatly disrupted the peace process.”

CELEBRATING THE HERO OF DEMOCRACY

Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan.
Former Nigerian President

YES, it's a memorable day in Nigeria today, the 29th day of May, 2018.

Let us celebrate the EPITOME OF PEACE, the ICON OF DEMOCRACY, the SYMBOLIC EMBRYO OF PATIENCE and AN ADHERENT OF THE RULE OF LAW.

The man that vacated the seat of power, and democracy left Nigeria.

Just 1096 days ago, for the sake of peace, the unity of the country and the preservation of my life and that of many Nigerians, both those that love you and those that hate you, you surrendered what others would've held on to.

You disappointed the international communities that taught Nigeria would go up in flames of violence.

Even the numerous people around you that wanted you to hold on, even to the detriment of the lives of many, you ignored their pleas and defied their suggestions and surrendered, not because you are weak as many termed you, nor afraid as they had been saying, but because of one SINGULAR reason, which only you and your God knows. And what is that reason?

YOUR POLITICAL AMBITION WAS NOT WORTH THE BLOOD OF ANY NIGERIAN!

Sir, permit me to tell you this: in the remaining days of your life on earth, you and your entire generations, shall experience "PEACE ROUNDABOUT", continually, in Jesus Mighty name.

JOIN ME TO CELEBRATE THE HERO OF NIGERIAN, AFRICAN AND WORLD DEMOCRACY...

DR GOODLUCK EBELE AZIKIWE JONATHAN.
