NIGERIA NOT YET ON CANNES RED CARPET

CANNES 2012 RED CARPET
The Cannes film festival is the biggest film festival in the world today. I have been privileged to have been accredited as a journalist in 2009,2010,2011, and 2012 edition of this great film event. My first was very exciting because I was privileged to meet the screen goddess Angelina Jolie when her beau Brit came for the premiering of the movie he features,THE INGLORIOUS BASTARD.

I am from Nigeria and no film from Nigeria have met the standard to go into competition at the Cannes film festival. The reasons are so obvious, those that the Federal government of Nigeria have appointed to oversee the film business are clueless of how to project the Nollywood industry to the rest of the  world.

In 2012 South African Government sent 134 delegates to the great event but Nigerian film corporation MD went with his secretary and one other worker, nexim bank was there on there own.Nigeria will always pay for the pavilion that end up being empty.Nigeria don't have a place at the world film market where film director from many countries buy and sale their films.Nigeria odes not have a bi annual compendium of the films that have been produce from Nigeria for industry professionals can get handy to know what is going on in the Nigeria film industry .

South Africa has been there with their film, including Egypt and our neighboring country Cameron including Chad. Why Can Nigeria film qualify for Cannes, that is a big question still unanswered

BOB EJIKE TAKES NIGERIA TO DUBAI

BOB EJIKE TAKES NIGERIA TO DUBAI

Multi-talented Nigerian artiste Professor Bob Ejike will represent Nigeria at the international cultural extravaganza that will hold on 29th November, 2012, the International Student Day, at the Middlesex University Dubai, which will showcase music, dance and other cultural displays from 35 nations of the world.
Bob Ejike, the critically acclaimed, award-winning veteran musician, writer and Nollywood actor, who has been tagged Nigeria’s King of Pop, and Nollywood Ambassador by local press and his band will be draped in Nigeria’s national colours as they once again make Nigeria proud. Ejike’s performance on the show was confirmed last week by the organizing committee of the event after a meeting with his management which sealed the deal and this are the reasons why. Bob Ejike was born in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. He began reading Chinua Achebe at 6. In primary school at W.T.C Practicing School, Enugu, where he was known for his ability to create and narrate stories spontaneously, he started acting in the school theatre. He later gained admission into the prestigious Government College Umuahia from where he commenced writing for Drum Magazine, sharing the short story page with Ben Okri (later to win the Commonwealth and Pulitzer literature prices). Ejike soon began to write for local dailies and writing poetry and radio drama, distinguishing himself in this popular tradition as the youngest columnist and theatre director in Nigeria.
Ejike later graduated to writing television drama scripts and started taking singing lessons from his friend The Wonder Boy Kris Okotie (now Reverend Chris Okotie, a presidential candidate).  Okotie taught him how to convert his poems to music. Thereafter Ejike worked with other artistes like Jake Solo, Oritz Wiliki, Jide Obi, Loverboy Felix Liberty, Tina Onwudiwe etc.
Ejike gained admission to University of Port Harcourt to study Theatre Arts. In Uniport he came under the influence of great artistic minds like Ola Rotimi, Gabriel Okara, Elechi Amadi, I.N.C Aniebo, Chidi Amuta, and performed with celebrated artistes like Daniel Wilson, Dizzy K Falola, Sweat, Mr Cool, and Mandy Brown among others. Ten years before the recording of Living in Bondage, Bob Ejike’s film Echoes of Wrath, starring Richard Mofe-Damijo, won the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) and launched the Nigerian video-film revolution, Nollywood.

MUSICAL EXPORT
Bob Ejike graduated and went for the National Youth Service Corps in Ogun State. That was when he recorded and released his first music album No Vacancy, which championed the cause of the teeming unemployed. At the end of his service year he joined Ken Saro-Wiwa’s Basi and Co as an actor and script writer.
In 1987 Bob Ejike went for a musical concert in Italy, joined an Italian reggae band, Iree, and remained in Italy. He thereafter went into graduate school and started teaching English Language at Oxford College, and The Polytechnic of Milan. Two years later he released his second album Checkin’ Out and in collaboration with some of his academic colleagues, launched a campaign to advertise Nigerian arts and culture in Europe. In 1990, Ejike was chosen to present Chinua Achebe’s Anthills of the Savanna to the city of Milan in a spectacular crowded ceremony. Ejike worked as an editor for Del Lavoro Publishers in Rome, and as a book translator for other publishers. He anchored columns for magazines and newspapers and publicized Nigeria’s Nollywood through exhibitions and public lectures that he held regularly in various parts of the European peninsula.
In 1995 Bob Ejike returned to Nigeria to work as Special Assistant to the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria. He rejoined the entertainment industry as an actor and performing musician. in the next 7 years he starred in 40 films, including Sharon Stone 2 with Genevieve Nnaji, Maximum Risks with Regina Askia, Confusion with Kanayo o Kanayo, Deadly Proposal with Pete Edochie, Polygamy with Peter Bunor snr, Tears in Heaven with Susan Patrick, Nightfall with Charles Okafor, Executive Crime with Bimbo Manuel, Aba Riot with Olu Jacob, Wanted Alive with St. Obi, Next of Kin with Jide Kosoko, and several others (Bob Ejike films in google).
Bob Ejike released 4 albums with several music videos, presented NTA Channel 5 Tropical Rhythms, wrote the Sunday Sun weekly column Klieglights and published his novel Weapons of Biafra. He endorsed many products and became Nigeria’s first male super model.
CULTURE AMBASSADOR
Around 2000 Nollywood was invaded by illiterate traders who took over the jobs of scriptwriters, producers and directors. The result was that Nigerian film cast became repetitive, the plots weak and predictable. Bob Ejike warned his colleagues about the risk of decline but was typically ignored. In 2002, dejected, he returned to Italy in protest and ultimately became an Associate Professor of English as a Foreign Language, in Universita Popolare di Roma, but continued to make music and videos for an international audience.
In 2005 the government of Chief the Honourable Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, Bob Ejike’s  birth place brought him back from Rome to Umuahia, honoured him and officially recognized his artistic and intellectual efforts towards the international promotion of Nigerian arts and culture.
In 2006 Bob Ejike relocated to Uganda to work for the Ugawood Project, a Ugandan government programme aimed at creating an indigenous motion picture industry. Ejike loved the people, the greenery and simplicity of life in Uganda, and opened the Professor Bob Ejike Foundation for Performing Arts (Probe) which runs audiovisual studios and marketing outfits in Kampala, assisting indigent artists. In about 6 years of Uganda Ejike’s creativity, music and performance flowered. He worked in two international films, recorded 70 songs and 20 videos that dominated the top ten in the region and made him one of the most famous artistes in East Africa. He used his position in that country to build a cultural bridge that facilitated the arrival in Uganda of Nollywood products and artistes like P Square, 2Face Idibia, Danfo Drivers, Flavour, and many Nollywood celebrities. Today Nollywood is the most popular font of home entertainment in East Africa and in Uganda thanks to the unsung efforts of people like Bob Ejike, whom Ugandans named Ki Nigeria, meaning Nigerian film or Mr. Nollywood. His awards include the Legend of the Arts Award from Italy.
Bob Ejike is presently the publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the National Edifice Magazine in Lagos and shuttles between his performance engagements in Dubai and his editorial duties in Lagos. (Bob Ejike's fotos are in google image)

The Communities model re-enforces Afroterminal.com's focus on the African culture - which is rich in mutual respect, family and community spirit.

Afroterminal.com also provides users with mobile and desktop chat functionalities, lively forum discussions, chatrooms, photos, videos, music and much more.
CHARLES AKPOM - UK-BASED CO-FOUNDER/ CEO OF AFROTERMINAL.COM EXPLAINS THE THINKING BEHIND THE ‘I LOVE AFRICA’ VIDEO COMPETITION:

There is so much bad press about Africa - and yet, for those of us from the beautiful continent - we know Africa is the future. We want to allow everyone express why they love our Motherland, through video. Most Africans are proud of where we come from; we just need to tell the world and show Africa in a positive light.
“ THE COMPETITION ENCOURAGES USERS TO CREATE SHORT VIDEOS SHOWCASING WHY THEY LOVE AFRICA. THE VIDEOS CAN BE AS CREATIVE OR SIMPLE AS THE USERS WANT IT TO BE. IT COULD BE A DANCE, A SONG, A POEM OR A SIMPLE MONOLOGUE (TALKING TO THE CAMERA)."

After a voting process by the public, the 3 most popular videos (those with the most Afroterminal 'Likes') will be shortlisted. A celebrity panel of judges from across Africa will vote to select the winner from the 3 finalists. The winner will receive a $3000 cash prize, plus an OH Box (OH TV’s portable digital TV modem).
Entries for the competition open on Monday 19th November 2012, and the 3 finalists will be selected 3 months later. "We encourage members of the public to create and post their videos early, so that they can receive enough votes. 3 months gives our participants the opportunity to create their videos, and gives the public enough time to vote,” says Charles Akpom.

THE UNSEEN HAND OF GOD IN YOUR SITUATION

THE UNSEEN HAND OF GOD IN YOUR SITUATION

Many have surrendered to their fears while their hearts dreamed of a miracle. Many abandoned their posts because of pressure and tension. Many changed the course of the history of their lives forever. People of God, we will continue to be challenged by issues that violate our conscience. In these times of distress, remember Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel 3:1-30). For a moment, they opened their eyes and saw the flames of the furnace before them. In another moment, they opened the eyes of their faith and it silenced their fears. As they walked through the flames, they discovered the joy of walking beside God, feeling His hand in their own hand and walking in His strength and not their own. How clearly do you see your own situation? The world may see it as a crisis but as a child of God, what the eyes cannot see is the unseen hand of God in your life. Never focus on the apparent size of the problem, look instead to the sovereignty of God for the only way to see life clearly is to focus on Christ alone.

GHANAIAN ARTIST SIGNS 5 MILLION POUND RECORDING CONTRACT IN THE UK

                                                         ZENA
London, UK, 10/08/12 .  One of the world’s biggest music  organisations the Urban Music Awards is pleased to announce it’s first ever African signing to it’s subsidiary record label, Invincible Records.

The  20 year old recording artist, Zena ( real name Jeanette Akua Yeboah-Mensah)  born  of a Ghanaian father from Sunyani, a South African mother and raised in South Africa , has bagged herself a 5 million pound recording contract for a  5 year album deal with Invincible Records the sister label to the Urban Music Awards.
“I am still in shock, but I am so thankful and blessed to have been given this opportunity to represent Africa globally. It’s been a journey, but I believe you can achieve anything with faith, determination and belief in God”. said Zena

From the age of 12  Zena showed star quality with her first television debut on the hit reality show 'South African  Idols' (2010) and reached top 90 semi-finalists at just the age of 18. A few months later, that same year she entered South African ‘POPSTARS’, a popular singing TV show and made top 30.
In early 2011 after several rejections, she was finally granted an indefinite leave visa for the United Kingdom. So immediately after completing high-school, Zena packed her bags and wasted no time in moving to London to pursue an international singing career. Her mum initially didn't want her to leave home but Zena convinced her it was the best thing to do. "I was secretly terrified to come to London, I was just 18 I didn't know anyone and I didn’t have a plan. All I knew is that I was going to make it. I had never been away from home but I couldn't let my mum know I was afraid or else she would never have let me go" ,explains Zena. "
Quickly after moving to London, Zena was introduced by a mutual friend to the CEO of the Urban Music Awards, Jordan Kensington. Mr Kensington had seen video clips of her performances and  followed her progress on South African Idols and South African Popstars and when he met her in person ,the mogul was so impressed by the young starlet’s talent  that after a five-hour meeting which included an intense 14 song showcase with her. Zena was signed to Invincible Records  . Zena plans to be the first female mega-star to come out of South Africa and Ghana. “I want to represent Africa as a whole”.
With such a great team behind her, the future for Zena looks very bright!  CEO, of the Urban Music Awards, Jordan Kensington added “ I instinctively knew Zena was destined to become a global superstar but what made me more certain was her versatile talent, faith, believe, and tenacity in pursing her ambition. I have always known that Africa has some very talented musicians who if given a global platform will exceed to become household names worldwide and inspire many to see a much more bright, vibrant and successful side to Africa.  Zena, is one artist who is set on becoming a global superstar and an ambassador to Africa worldwide”.
This week, saw the release of her first video under Invincible Records , the single entitled ‘Number 1’ featuring her label boss Experiment( aka Jordan Kensington). The video has already attracted over 35,000 views online after just 2 days and with the single out on global chart release on the 1st of October 2012, the demand for her has skyrocketed. She is set to perform at the UK’s biggest Television Awards ceremony, the National Reality Television Awards on the 30th of August 2012 and has added 34 more dates to her European tour commencing in September with plans to tour Africa from December right through to the first quarter of 2013.

Putin's 'Luxurious Life' Set Out By Activists

PUTIN RUSSIAN PRESIDENT

At least 20 opulent homes, 58 official aircraft and four yachts may number among the reasons Vladimir Putin refuses to quit as Russia's president, opposition activists have suggested.
In a report published under the ironic title Life Of A Galley Slave, opposition leader Boris Nemtsov detailed how Mr Putin has allegedly expanded the trappings of office since he rose to power in 2000.
Among the extravagancies highlighted are a £48,000 toilet on a presidential jet, 11 luxury watches with a total value of about £440,000 and one yacht that is fitted with a "jacuzzi, barbecue, a maple wood colonnade and a huge bathroom faced in marble".
A huge house on Lake Valdai in northwestern Russia has a cinema, a bowling alley and a "presidential church", the report said. Nine new official residences have been made available to the president since 2000.
Mr Nemtsov, a deputy prime minister in the 1990s, and co-author Leonid Martynyuk wrote: "In a country where more than 20 million people barely make ends meet, the luxurious life of the president is a blatant and cynical challenge to society.
"We absolutely cannot put up with this."
The Kremlin has long portrayed the 59-year-old president, who returned to the post in May after four years as prime minister, as a man of simple tastes and a liking for popular sports and active outdoor pastimes.
But he has repeatedly been forced to deny rumours that he has built up a vast personal fortune, despite declaring a salary that is just a quarter of that of his US counterpart.
Mr Nemtsov is among the leaders of the opposition that have staged a series of protests since parliamentary elections won by Mr Putin's United Russia party were marred by fraud allegations.
Anger at the president has brought the disparate elements of the opposition together, pushing down Mr Putin's popularity.
The report was released as the wife of another prominent opposition activist was reportedly jailed for eight years on drugs charges - twice as long as was recommended by the prosecutors.
Taisiya Osipova and her supporters have maintained that police planted 4g of heroin in her home in 2010 after she refused to testify against her husband, Sergei Fomchenkov of The Other Russia movement.
Eduard Limonov, the leader of The Other Russia party, told Interfax that "this verdict is not only a political one, it's also a terrifying revenge".
Mrs Osipova was one of the most prominent names on a list of people activists described as political prisoners that was submitted to then-president Dmitry Medvedev in February.
Meanwhile, a group of Russian Orthodox Church activists burst into a theatre during a play about the Pussy Riot punk band, three members of which were recently jailed after performing an anti-Putin protest in a Moscow cathedral.
The show - named Khamovnichesky Court: The Sequel after the venue of the trial - by a Moscow theatre with a history of criticising the authorities was interrupted by people shouting "repent and "why do you hate Russians".
"We want to know why you are supporting this protest. Why are you so negative to the Orthodox faith?" one heckler, who gave his name as Andrei Kaplin, demanded to boos and shouts from the audience.

EVERYTHING OR NOTHING: THE UNTOLD STORY OF 007

Feature Documentary To Be Released October 5, 2012

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Passion Pictures and Red Box Films are proud to announce their new feature documentary EVERYTHING OR NOTHING: THE UNTOLD STORY OF 007 directed by Stevan Riley (FIRE IN BABYLON), produced by John Battsek (ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER, THE TILLMAN STORY) and Simon Chinn (MAN ON WIRE, PROJECT NIM) to coincide with the 50th anniversary of James Bond films on October 5. Country specific release plans to be announced shortly.

EVERYTHING OR NOTHING focuses on three men with a shared dream – Bond producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and author Ian Fleming. It's the thrilling and inspiring narrative behind the longest running film franchise in cinema history which began in 1962. With unprecedented access both to the key players involved and to Eon Productions' extensive archive, this is the first time the inside story of the franchise has ever been told on screen in this way. Director Stevan Riley follows a story that begins with a ground-breaking spy thriller and continues six Bonds and five decades later. While Bond was saving the world from chaos and catastrophe on screen, this compelling documentary draws back the curtain to reveal the battles, threats and real stakes unfolding behind the camera.

Shoprite to spend $205 million on property development in Nigeria

Aug 22 - South African supermarket chain, Shoprite, announced on Tuesday, it will be spending $205 million on retail property development in Nigeria to support its expansion in the country.

The company, which is also considered to Africa’s top retailer, said it is looking to add nine new stores in Nigeria by June 2013.

But in order to expand, the proper infrastructure needs to be developed, an issue other major retailers have felt the effect of across the continent, including Wal-Mart stores via a 51 per cent stake in domestic retailer Massmart, who have found their growth hampered by the lack of retail infrastructure in Africa.

Shoprite first entered Nigeria in December 2005 when it opened a store in Lagos, the most populous city in Nigeria.

The retailer recently reported a 20 per cent jump in full-year earnings and is said to be pushing aggressively into fast-growing markets with a lot of opportunity, including Nigeria as well as Angola, where it plans to open 21 new stores.

BEWARE OF SHOCKING MOBILE PHONES

A few days ago, a person was recharging his mobile phone at home.

Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging Instrument still connected to the outlet.

After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. As you can see, the phone actually exploded.

His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers.

He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cell phones are a very useful modern invention.

However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death.

Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger and outlet.

Angelina Jolie 'shrugs off wedding talk on cruise around Greece with Brad Pitt'

All eyes have been on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's French chateau amid rumours of a wedding this month.
But it seems the A-list couple have been quietly laying low elsewhere.
The pair were holidaying in Greece last week, according to the New York Post, with sources saying they were spotted in Halkidiki, northern Greece.

And the actress is understood to have shrugged off speculation of an imminent ceremony while visiting a local eatery.
A source the Post: 'Angelina was in white, but she laughed and said "not yet" when the restaurant owner asked if she was getting ready to be married. She also said, "We love Greece too much to leave... we have other islands to go to before heading back to France."

But Brad recently admitted he didn't feel they'd be to wait that long because of mounting pressure from their children.
'It seems to mean more and more to our kids,' he said in January.
'We made this declaration some time ago that we weren't going to [get married] till everyone can. But I don't think we'll be able to hold out … it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment.'
Angelina has also said that their children often ask why they aren't married like 'Shrek and Fiona'.
She said just months ago: 'We've explained to them that our commitment, when we decided to start a family, was the greatest commitment you could possibly have.
'Once you have six children, you're committed.'

Roger Federer dominates Novak Djokovic at Cincinnati

Roger Federer dominates Novak Djokovic at Cincinnati
The world's top-ranked player won a record fifth Cincinnati title Sunday, defeating second-ranked Novak Djokovic, 6-0, 7-6 (7).

Roger Federer finds a lot to like about Cincinnati — the big crowds for his matches, the quiet time away from the court, the way his game seems to come together on the fast, blue courts.

It probably helps that he often takes home the trophy too.

Make it five for Federer.

The world's top-ranked player won a record fifth Cincinnati title Sunday, dominating second-ranked Novak Djokovic in an unprecedented way at the start of a 6-0, 7-6 (7) win for the Western & Southern Open championship in suburban Mason, Ohio.

The 31-year-old Swiss star has enjoyed many of his one-week visits. None was better than the latest.

"Looking back, it's just unbelievable," Federer said. "This was probably the best week for me here in Cincinnati. I didn't lose a set. This is very sweet, no doubt about it."

THE HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN

                           THE HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN

At some level in life, we all hunger for meaning in our lives. We
want to know, 'Who am I, why am I, where am I?' When your

purpose is clear, your life will have meaning. As believers we are
Heaven bound. Are you on the right road? Apostle Paul declared

that the entrance to the highway to Heaven is not hard to find, it is

right in front of you, in the Word of God. Psalm 119:
133 - "Direct
my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me." As

the Bible makes us understand here, a good man's footsteps are

ordered by God.

                                  PROPHET TB JOSHUA

The way has been made plain, as John 14:6 says, "I am the way,

the truth and the life…" We just have to step out in boldness and
start to make His Word an integral part of our life. The more you

read God's Word the more you understand about yourself and this
God who created you. When you learn what God has made you for
and how He treasures your company, you will be content and your
life will have meaning.
