The first
leg of 2018 championship match between Juventus and Valencia has come and gone
but left with serious doubt of the level of professionalism of referee Felix
Byrch from Germany on his abysmal RED CARD decision on Cristiano Ronaldo.
The decision
of the referee was too premature due to the fact that he actually did not see
Ronaldo’s clash with Valencia defender and dishing out a red card after he consulted
with his official by the goal side is
not enough for such a very strong decision on a big competition like this.
Referee Felix Byrch has shown that he has poor
sense of judgment and don’t have the mental strength to officiate a match of this
magnitude not even talking of world cup. His decision with the official on goal
line is as if they were targeting Cristiano Ronaldo. The decision is so harsh
and premeditated. A yellow card and a warning could have been fair enough.
Union of
European Football Associations (UEFA) officials
should revisit this referee’s decision and caution referees over ridiculous officiating
that can bring Championship league competition
into disrepute and ridicule like what happened during Juventus and Valencia
match. We still have many more matches to watch so measures should be taken to penalize
players who erred genuinely without any sentiment.
