Submit Feature Film Projects and Series Projects to Berlinale Co-Production Market 2019

Berlinale Co-Production Market 2019: Submit Feature Film Projects and Series Projects Now and Find International Partners

Until October 10, experienced producers from around the world may submit new feature-length film projects in need of co-producers and financiers to the 16th Berlinale Co-Production Market (February 9 - 13, 2019). The project budget should be between one and 20 Million euros and at least 30% of the financing or local production support should already be in place.

Producers from Latin and Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, the Caucasus, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Southeastern Europe are also encouraged to submit their lower-budget projects with budgets starting at 750,000 euros.

Once again in 2019, three promising new “Berlinale Directors” projects will be chosen. This is a selection of a few new projects by directors who have had films presented at the Berlinale in previous years. Since these projects are likely to be of particular interest to prospective co-producers, they may be submitted without the full 30% of financing in place, in order to provide early practical support in these projects’ search for co-production partners.

By the end of this year approximately 25 feature film projects will have been selected from all submissions to the Berlinale Co-Production Market.

Another ten projects will be presented at the “Talent Project Market” in cooperation with Berlinale Talents. The “Talent Project Market” is open to producers who are in the first ten years of their career, and the submission deadline for all Berlinale Talents programmes is September 3.

The Berlinale Co-Production Market team creates a tailored meeting schedule for each selected project. Around 1,300 individually pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings with interested potential co-producers, financiers, global and national distributors, TV channels and other supporters take place during the market. Producers and financiers looking for co-production projects can apply for participation starting in November 2018.

In addition to the feature-length film projects, once again five particularly exciting international companies without projects will also be introduced at the Berlinale Co-Production Market “Company Matchings”. At the pitching events “Co-Pro Series” and “Books at Berlinale”, participants will again have the opportunity to discover new series projects and literary fiction material for the screen.

Producers with drama series projects from around the world seeking international co-production partners in Berlin are invited to submit those projects for participation in the much sought-after “Co-Pro Series” event by October 22. In addition to the series pitch, the Berlinale Co-Production Market team also organises meetings with potential partners for their producers as part of “Co-Pro Series”. The event is part of the “Drama Series Days” programme, a cooperative initiative by the European Film Market, Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents. Projects introduced at “Co-Pro Series” in past years include the successful German series Babylon Berlin by Tom Tykwer, Achim von Borries and Henk Handloegten.

Of all international feature film projects selected for the Berlinale Co-Production Market in previous years, 270 films have been successfully completed. This year, among the most talked-about Berlinale Co-Production Market alumni were seven-time German Film Award winner and Berlinale Competition film 3 Days in Quiberon by Emily Atef, the festival hit Birds of Passage by Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra, and A Fantastic Woman by Sebastián Lelio (Berlinale Competition 2017, Silver Bear for Best Screenplay), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

The Berlinale Co-Production Market is part of the European Film Market. Its main partners are the MDM - Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (since 2004) and Creative Europe - MEDIA, a programme of the European Union (since 2005).
