18th June, London, UK: The Karlovy International Film Festival (KVIFF) today
announced that French actress Audrey Tautou will join Michel Gondry to present
his latest film, MOOD INDIGO, which opens the Festival and in which she stars. Alongside Tautou, the Festival also welcomes
American filmmaker Cary Fukunaga (SIN NOMBRE, JANE EYRE), Cannes
Jury Prize winning Director Paolo Sorrentino (IL DIVO, This Must Be the Place), acclaimed British actor Julian
Sands and the distinguished Italian actress Valeria Golino (RAINMAN, A TALE OF
LOVE).
Jiří Bartoška, KVIFF President
said: "We are delighted to welcome a number of supremely talented
filmmakers and actors to this year‘s edition of the Karlovy Vary International
Film Festival. From Audrey Tautou to
Cary Fukunga, we have scoured the globe to bring the brightest talents who
perfectly represent the eclectic nature of the sensational films that our
audiences have to look forward to."
Tautou rose
to prominence in previous KVIFF winner AmÉlie FROM MONTMARTRE,
before starring in the critical success Dirty
Pretty Things and international blockbuster The Da Vinci code. The adaptation of Boris Vian’s cult novel,
MOOD INDIGO, marks the long-awaited return to KVIFF for the much-loved actress.
Naples-born filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino will personally
introduce his latest film THE GREAT BEAUTY (LA GRANDE BELLEZZA) in the Horizons
section of the Festival. The award-winning director has garnered much acclaim
since his debut feature ONE MAN UP (L’UOMO IN PIU), which screened at KVIFF
in 2002. He is now a regular in competition at the
world’s leading festivals and his 2008 film IL DIVO was awarded the Jury Prize
at the Cannes Film Festival.
Fellow Italian Valeria Golino will also be in
attendance to introduce her film, MIELE, which premiered at the Cannes Film
Festival to great acclaim earlier this year. Primarily known for her acting –
she won a host of major awards for her performance in A TALE OF LOVE (Storia
d’amore), before starring alongside Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman in RAINMAN –
this is Golino’s debut feature as Director. One
of the most promising young filmmakers today, Cary Joji Fukunaga, will make his
third appearance at the Festival. The award-winning director of Sin Nombre and Jane Eyre will present his latest project, SLEEPWALKING IN
THE RIFT. The product of a collaboration with fashion label Maiyet, the
American has reworked the improvisational piece into a visceral audio-visual
installation – to be shown at Tržní Kolonáda between the 4th and 6th
of July.
Much admired actor
Julian Sands (the Loss of Sexual
Innocence) returns to the Festival
once again to present his multi-award-winning theatrical performance, A
CELEBRATION OF HAROLD PINTER. Directed by John Malkovich and featuring a
sensitive mix of anecdotes and quotes from genuine correspondance between Sands
and the late, great dramatist, the one man show has garnered unanimous praise
since its 2011 premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
