KARLOVY VARY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TO HONOR TWO-TIME ACADEMY AWARD®NOMINEE JOHN TRAVOLTA WITH THE CRYSTAL GLOBE AT THIS YEAR’S 48TH EDITION

Festival to host World Premiere of Director Mark Steven Johnson’s KILLING SEASON, starring John Travolta, at a Gala Screening

18th June 2013, London, UK: The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) today announced that the 2013 recipient of its Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic contribution to World Cinema will be two-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® winner John Travolta, who will attend Karlovy Vary to accept the award in person. The festival, which runs June 28 – July 6th, will host a gala screening of Travolta’s latest film KILLING SEASON.

His contribution to world cinema is unquestionable and we are incredibly honoured to host him at Karlovy Vary 2013 and premiere his latest film.”

Millennium Films' KILLING SEASON, which Nu Image is handling worldwide, is a tense action drama between two Bosnian War veterans directed by Mark Steven Johnson (WHEN IN ROME, GHOST RIDER). Travolta stars alongside Robert De Niro, who was previously honoured with Karlovy Vary’s Crystal Globe in 2008.

John Travolta began his acting career in the television sitcom WELCOME BACK, KOTTER (1975). Less than two years later, he landed the role of dancer Tony Manero in John Badham's SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, earning him both Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominations. He soon after starred in Randal Kleiser's hit musical GREASE (1978), for which he received his second Golden Globe® nomination.

Other credits include James Bridges' URBAN COWBOY (1980), the comedic trilogy LOOK WHO’S TALKING (1989, ‘90, ‘93), Quentin Tarantino's PULP FICTION(1994), which once again earned him Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominations, Barry Sonnenfeld's crime comedy GET SHORTY (1995), for which he received a Golden Globe®, Nora Ephron’s MICHAEL (1996), Jon Turteltaub’s PHENOMENON (1996), John Woo's BROKEN ARROW (1996) and FACE/OFF (1997), Costa-Gavras’ drama MAD CITY (1997), and DominikSena’s action thriller SWORDFISH (2001).

Travolta received two additional Golden Globe® nominations for his performances in Mike Nichols’ election satire PRIMARY COLORS (1998) and Adam Shankman's musical comedy HAIRSPRAY (2007).  Most recently, he starred in Tony Scott's crime drama THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3, and SAVAGES (2012) from director Oliver Stone, who will also be honoured with a Crystal Globe at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.


Other previous winners of the Karlovy Vary Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema include:Robert Redford, Michael Douglas, Robert de Niro and Miloš Forman.
