Purpose, Pursuit and Power
(66)
2 Timothy 2:5
“And if a man also strive
for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.”
Today, we will look at the
last factor that triggers the desire for Short Cuts. This is what I call
Scarcity Mentality! This is a major mental barrier that the world especially
Africans need to recover from. This is the belief that that the benefits or the
resources are not enough and so cannot go round.
It then becomes the
survival of the fastest and the fiercest! I need to get in there faster than
everybody else and grab as much as I can since I know it would never be enough.
In this madness, we forget that once we take more than our fair share, we
deprive other people their legitimate portion.
Unfortunately, people get
celebrated for being the fastest and the fiercest thieves. We tend to blame and
punish those who are playing strictly by the rules. We call them names. We make
them feel like they have committed the abominable! Our society has suffered a
travesty of values. We celebrate the rogues and vilify the right.
That is why civil servants
take short cuts; private sector professionals take short cuts; students do,
lecturers are actively engaged in it; business men and women take even shorter
cuts and the list goes on. No matter how much you have, a scarcity mentality
tells you it is not enough and so contentment is a mirage. You must keep
stealing and running until you die miserably!
If your pursuit must be
lawful so you can be deemed right by heaven to obtain the prize, deliver
yourself today from this worst form of poverty and you have delivered your
future from stillbirth!
I celebrate you
